A tiny hideaway in one of Italy's most picturesque villages.
Vallo Di Nera has been designated one of the most beautiful hilltop villages in Italy, having been awarded the coveted Orange Flag. Il Nascondiglio - the Hideaway - is a recently renovated terraced house, over 3 floors, in the heart of the 12th century hilltop village. It would be a perfect bolt-hole from which to escape city life and though it feels isolated from the outside world, it is just a (proverbial) stone's throw from Umbria's many attractions. There is excellent holiday rental potential in an area already popular with tourists.
The fully restored accommodation comprises:
Ground floor
Entry to the house from a cobbled street running through the centre of the village. A glazed door leads to a cosy room with fitted kitchen units, a fireplace and living area.
First floor
Stairs lead to a small hallway with door to the bathroom, with shower, w.c. and basin. A doorway leads to a single bedroom with fitted wardrobe and window to the street.
Second floor
A wooden staircase rises to the sunny attic double bedroom which has a roof-light and eaves storage for clothes. The sloped ceiling is beamed.
Although there is no outside space belonging the the house itself, the village is very much the kind of place where you can put a chair out on the street, or in the piazza, and chat to passers-by.

Location
The village, located on a hillside in the delightful Valnerina, through which runs the Nera river, has been the subject of a sensitive restoration recently, preserving a unique medieval atmoshere. It is accessed from an impressive 4Km-long tunnel from the Spoleto valley. The house is about 50m from the village shop and 100m from car-parking, which is outside the walls. The city of Spoleto, famous for its international music festival, is just 20 minutes away, but seems a world apart. Perugia (the regional capital), and its airport, with a direct low-cost London route 4 times a week, is under an hour away; airports at Rome, Ancona and Pescara, each 2 hours.
The principal attractions of Umbria, including Assisi, Montefalco, Spello and Norcia are within easy reach and the Valnerina and Monte Sibillini National Park (30 minutes away) offer a haven for sports enthusiasts with activities such as walking, rafting, mountaineering and canyoning. We understand that there is a privately-owned swimming pool, open to the public, nearby. There are a great many delightful restaurants in the area, famous for its truffles, salamis and hams, including the Locanda Cacio Re, right in the village.
